Food Review: The Dessert Project


The Dessert Project is an ice cream parlour located in an unassuming HDB void deck in Tiong Bahru. It's not at the hipster/gentrified enclave where Tiong Bahru Bakery is, but towards Havelock Road/Bukit Ho Swee that side. At first I wonder how these new, modern cafes can survive with the majority of the residents being old folks. But it seems like they're doing fine!

We entered an empty shop on a weekday mid-afternoon, but were shortly joined by one or two more customers. Having seen photos of their thick toasts making the rounds on Instagram, we knew we had to order it!

Nutella and Ferrero Rocher Toast ($14.90 + additional scoop of ice cream)
I forgot the exact name of the dish, but it comes with vanilla ice cream, Ferrero Rocher ice cream, whipped cream, and drizzled liberally with Nutella sauce. We ordered an additional scoop of Pistachio ice cream. Wow everything was so good! The ice cream flavours were pretty rich, especially the Ferrero Rocher and Pistachio. And the toast. Oh gosh the toasttttt. So crispy, light, fluffy and buttery! It was very fragrant and it didn't feel gelat at all. And when the ice cream melts into the bread... MMMM SO GOOD! Yeah and definitely very sinful, because I'm sure the butter must be quite substantial to produce such party-in-the-mouth experience!


I definitely think the thick toasts here deserves more than a try. But please, share it with at least one person! You wouldn't want to feel so guilty after that hahaha. The shop owners are friendly and readily give recommendations. Can tell they take pride in their ice cream and everything else that they do. (:
